President's
Message - 3/9/07
Dear
CYO Members,
I
have been in extensive negotiations with several different Hockey Sanctioning
bodies in order to find sanctioning for our organization for next season.
The Alliance has chosen to not sanction us for a multiple of
reasons, one being the number of complaints they got from the OMHA with
regards to our program. Getting sanctioning from the OMHA would not
work for our league since their rules would not allow our Solar Bear
teams to enter tournaments above house league due to the fact that our
teams are not resident compliant. As most of you are aware we are a
parish based organization with members from all parts of Durham Region.
It
is for this reason that the Canadian Hockey Parents Association has
agreed to sanction us for the next 3 years until 2010. They will provide
us with the necessary insurance, hockey rules, regulations, etc. We
will be
able to continue to operate our Solar Bear and Non-Contact House League
programs as before. The only key issue that will be affected is our
ability to attend Alliance, OMHA and GTHL tournaments. Although a coach
and team can apply, it is possible that the tournament coordinator may
reject their application or charge them a small additional fee. We do
have a list of other tournaments both in Ontario and across the boarder
with which your
teams will be able to attend.
Registration
will take place in Whitby/Ajax/Pickering in early April (date and location
still to be determined) and Oshawa/Clarington on May 4th and 5th at
the Civic Auditorium and South Courtice Arena. The selection process
for our Solar Bear teams will take place from May 7th to May 25th. We
are going to be updating our online registration shortly so this will
continue to be an option for you. Coaching applications will be posted
early this
week for those of you that are interested.
We
will be posting further details on our website at www.cyohockey.com
as they arise. We will also be holding a membership meeting shortly
to present
next year's program and answer any of your questions.
I
am also excited to announce that we are expecting to finish the season
in the black this year. Our tournament was a huge success and an excellent
fundraiser for us.
Thank
you.
